Regions of origin

Our Master Roaster carefully selected the origins of these Central, South American, and Indonesian coffees to create a velvety smooth blend you’ll love to the last sip! We’re highlighting one of the cooperatives in each region to give you a closer look into your coffee’s origin.

PERU

Peru lies between Brazil and the Pacific Ocean and hosts part of the Andes Mountains – the largest continuous mountain range in the world. This highly rich environment gives coffee beans from the Andes deep and complex flavors.

COOPERATIVE HIGHLIGHT

Innova Vraem is an agricultural farming cooperative with 234 coffee producers in the high elevations of Central Peru. It is dedicated to the production of coffee with social and environmental responsibility to improve the quality of life for the members through training, technical services, collection and marketing assistance.

NICARAGUA

These Nicaraguan beans are grown in three different regions: Junoteca, Madriz and Nueva Segovia. Producing only 1.4% of the world’s coffee, Nicaraguan coffee is known for its pleasant, well-balanced flavor profile.

COOPERATIVE HIGHLIGHT

In the Junoteca region, the 1,000-acre Siles Plantation produces high quality coffee beans at high altitudes. Siles focuses on the health, safety and living conditions of their 180 workers and families, and welcomes over 500 seasonal workers to hand pick the best coffee cherries during each harvest season. Siles has been Fair Trade and Organic certified since 2016.

HONDURAS

Smell the sweet aromas and taste the rich flavor from these Honduran coffee beans! This Arabica coffee is grown in the western highlands region on the border of Guatemala.

COOPERATIVE HIGHLIGHT

Proexo, a farming cooperative of nearly 200 farming families including 43 women and 39 younger generation growers sits 5,000 ft above sea level and spans 3,900 acres. The Proexo Cooperative provides necessary technical and financial assistance to each farm, allowing the farmers to become USDA Organic Certified and keep their trees thriving!

INDONESIA—SUMATRA

Sumatran coffees are characterized by their earthy tones, low acidity and full body. Taste and smell this spicy, earthy addition to Velvet Moon!

The Gayo Nusantra Cooperative, located high in the mountain wilderness of the Aceh Province, is comprised of 13 villages and over 800 farmers. Located on the northwest tip of Sumatra Island, these families depend on coffee farming for their livelihood.
