12 Tips to Make the Holidays Even Better

Most Americans plan on spending over $800 this holiday season. Lavish? We think so, but not everyone agrees. In the “12 Days of Christmas” song, there were 364 gifts received from just one true love. There’s no telling what the recipient got from their mother, father, friends or siblings!

Whether you’re going to go all out for your loved ones and get them three French hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree, or simply focus on spending time with them, gracing them with your charming personality, it’s important that whatever you do brings smiles to all of the people you love, including yourself.

Here are a few tips we’ve put together to help you make your holidays even better:

1 ) Don’t forget about your pets.
The holiday seasons are happy ones for pets, but there are a few common landmines to avoid. Dogs often get a hold of sweets, which can give them pancreatitis if they get too much. Cats have been known to ingest decorations when playing with them, and both cats and dogs, have ingested mistletoe, which will make them sick.

2 ) Take care of your own health.
Overeating is a difficult pitfall to avoid, especially because there’s so much food around you during the holidays. One of the best ways to avoid overeating is by focusing on the people around you. Don’t munch on snacks while conversing with friends and family. Just converse.

3 ) Keep your energy up with coffee.
A cup of coffee can make even the most stressful and packed schedules a little easier, but did you know coffee increases longevity? So why not drink to your health as you keep yourself fueled for the busy holiday season.

4 ) Simplify.
One of the reasons people are stressed during the holidays is that they have too many plans, too many expectations. Avoid the hazard of perfectionism by making plans flexible. Flexible plans allow you to be open to whatever comes, letting you relax and enjoy time with friends and family.

5 ) Create the holiday spirit.
Did you know scented candles could inspire happy memories of holidays past, or that having a birdhouse or feeder outside your window could inspire mindfulness? Making simple adjustments to the aura of your holiday setting can make a big difference.

6 ) Write a letter to someone you love.
Did you know there are medical benefits to writing a kind letter to loved ones? Who receives the benefits? Both the writer of the letter and the receiver. Take some time to jot a note to someone you care about. It doesn’t have to be long for the words to work their magic.

7 ) Catch up with old pals.
There are no friends like old friends, and the holidays are one of the best times for you to get together. Relive the good old days, and pick up right where you left off.

8 ) Fulfill last minute 2015 New Year’s Resolutions.
Goals and resolutions are great things. They help us aspire to be greater, but it’s easy to forget about them with the hustle and bustle of life. Remember that there’s still time to work towards them, or at the very least start.

9 ) Sing out loud.
This suggestion may frighten the vocally shy, but it is a great way to melt away stress and feel joy. If you’re afraid to hit the high notes, you can wait until you’re in the privacy of your own car or home to let them loose.

10 ) Carry on the family traditions.
Family and the holidays seem to be interwoven, which is why it’s paramount that you carry on those old family traditions. The act allows families to carry on memories of those who are no longer with them.

11 ) Give.
Simple acts of kindness can go a long way. Whether it’s giving a hug, a compliment, $1 to the Salvation Army bell ringer, or a gift, give with love, and you’ll feel joy in return.

12 ) Be Merry!
A simple commitment to being cheerful can go a long way. Decide to carry the “holiday cheer” throughout the month, and you might be surprised where it might take you.

We hope the tips help, and if you need any coffee gifts, we can help you out. Though we don’t have 364 types of coffee available for you to go all out like the true love in the “12 Days of Christmas”, we have a great selection you can choose from.
