Coffee Kids Partnership: An Update from Beatriz

Coffee Kids Partnership: An Update from Beatriz

We hope you have been following along with our 2020 Coffee Kids farmer Beatriz as we receive updates from Guatemala about her progress!

Ambitious and motivated, Beatriz has stood out as a group and community leader this year! She has taken on additional responsibilities outside of her AJPU youth group project, turning her plot of land into a demonstration plot for climate friendly, sustainable farming practices. As a demo plot owner, Beatriz is the main contact person in her region to pass along hands-on knowledge to other Coffee Kids farmers and others in the farming community.

The AJPU group has been making progress and working hard on their nursery business during this year, despite the complexity added by the pandemic. When we introduced Beatriz back in July, AJPU had secured a large order from their local city, the Municipality of San Antonio Huista. Great news- the Municipality order has been planted! The whole group volunteered their time to get the job done and hopes to continue the partnership into the future.

When asked about her plans for the future, Beatriz told us:

“I see myself in a job that I like in the farm, pushing myself and achieving my goals. For the group (AJPU) and our business, we will grow little by little. We want to support more businesses once seed financing has been recovered, while always focusing on our nursery business.”

Look for more updates on Beatriz in the new year!
