Meet Cameron’s Fan Tim Johnson

This month we’d like to introduce you to one of our biggest fans (and one of our neighbors), Tim Johnson. We’ve gotten to know Tim really well over the past few years, but he was posting about his love of Cameron’s Coffee before we ever even met him! Some say he’s the happiest grumpy guy you’ll ever meet, but don’t let that stop you from saying hello if you ever see him at Badger Hill.

Where did you grow up, and where do you live now?
I spent my childhood in eastern Iowa with a stop in central Iowa before moving here to the Twin Cities 16 years ago and have lived here ever since.

What do you do for work, and what do you like about it?
I’m the Head Brewer for Badger Hill Brewing in Shakopee, MN. What I love about beer is that people use it to celebrate, commiserate, socialize and unwind, and I’m glad we can help them do that.

How did you get into brewing beer?
I started out as a homebrewer, or really, as a homebrewer’s assistant. I had friends who brewed beer in college and that’s where I learned the basics. I took a few different career paths before the hobby eventually became my career.

When did you first try Cameron’s?
I was first introduced to Cameron’s when I got a bag of Fireside Blend as a Christmas gift years back. I stuck with that blend for a while before branching out to other blends.

What’s your favorite Cameron’s Coffee, and how do you like to brew it?
For the longest time, I was on a Breakfast Blend kick, but lately it’s been Velvet Moon. I typically do pour over though I do cold brew from time to time.

Where do you like to enjoy your first cup of coffee?
Usually my morning coffee is consumed on the way in to work, but when I have time, there’s nothing more relaxing than sitting on the porch, enjoying the quiet and sipping on that first cup.

What does your ideal Saturday morning look like?
I like when I don’t have to rush anywhere and can leisurely get out of bed, go downstairs and get coffee started and breakfast made. “Someday,” I say to myself, “I’ll be one of those people that get up early to go run.” And then I laugh and laugh because that’s never going to happen.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Despite my inherent laziness on Saturdays, I do like to be outdoors; camping, hiking, biking, walking the lakeshore. And thankfully my 4 year old loves those things too, because she fills a lot of my free time.

What’s your favorite place to grab food or a drink?
Aside from Badger Hill? I like to mix it up. The metro has so many great restaurants and I never feel like I’ve tried enough.

Since you’re such a big fan of Cameron’s Coffee, anything else you want to tell the Cameron’s team?
I’ve been lucky enough to work in an industry that has allowed me to parlay my fandom into a strategic partnership by utilizing Cameron’s Coffee in a few different beers. But what’s been really great is how that has led to some really great friendships along the way.
