Midwest Winter Hacks
Check out these tricks to make your winter better.
Tis the season to be cozy! At Cameron’s, we know all about smooth coffee, and as a company based in the upper midwest, we also understand the cold. Winter can be a wonderful time with friends, family, and beautiful sights, but it can be dreary and difficult too. Try some of these tips to make your season as smooth as possible and remember it’s summer somewhere!
Retain Body Heat
While this can seem like a no-brainer, there are so many ways to get a little too frosty in the cold weather. Here are some ways to stay warm:
- Reverse Your Ceiling Fans: When your ceiling fans spin in the opposite direction they generate heat. Try this to help warm up your living spaces.
- Wear Wool Socks and/or Buy Rugs: The quickest way to lose body heat is through your feet. Keep them snug like a morning mug by keeping them encased in warm fabrics.
- Keep a Blanket on Standby: You never know when you might need one!
- Seal Drafts: You can lose a lot of heat (and money) with open drafts. Use draft stoppers or rolled-up towels at the bottom of doors and windows to block cold air.
- Drink Something Warm: Heat yourself up with a toasty, cozy brew, like one of our coffees or teas! Sipping hot drinks can maximize comfort, while relaxing and warming you, making them perfect for chilly days. Brew up your favorite blend and enjoy a moment of calm before a frosty morning. Transportation Tips
Staying warm inside is one thing- staying warm outside is another entirely! Here are some must-dos for comfort while traveling outside during the winter months.
- Keep an Emergency Kit in your vehicle: Car batteries die and accidents do happen when frost hits. Try to prepare by assembling or purchasing an emergency package with blankets, a flashlight, non-perishable food, water, a first aid kit, and a phone charger.
- Check Your Tires: Enough Said!
- Winterize Your Car: Ensure your car is ready for winter by checking the antifreeze levels, replacing wiper blades, and using winter-grade oil.
- Ice Your Walkways: Sprinkle rock salt or use sand on walkways and driveways before a storm to prevent ice buildup and improve traction.
- Prepare for Power Outages: It’ll be hard to leave the house if you lack power! Keep flashlights, blankets, and a battery-powered radio in an easily accessible location. Consider a portable generator to keep essential appliances running.
