Now that we’re all caught up, we wanted to share the next chapter of Saimon’s story! We’re so thrilled to have provided both entrepreneurship training and seed capital to kick off Saimon’s coffee business. And kick it off we did! Saimon proudly has planted over 1,200 coffee trees and has more confidence than ever.
In an interview with Saimon after he planted his new coffee trees, he mentioned, “Being a part of the Coffee Kids program has helped me to believe in myself, to trust myself, and to feel like a businessman. Before I was always afraid, I was not able to talk to people. Today I have more confidence, I have lost fear, I can speak without so much fear.” This new-found confidence has allowed Saimon to make his own coffee farming company and be prepared and ready to take on any challenges that come his way.
As you can imagine, the coffee business has many challenges, but the top of the list is climate change. Saimon mentioned that in previous years climate change has affected he and his mom’s farms very gravely, and has generated a lot of loss due to long winter seasons or a lot of sun and no rain. However, with the new-found confidence and focus on his coffee farm, he’s been able to ensure that the soil is taken care of and that his coffee plants aren’t negatively impacted. How cool is that?!
